Acura introduced the refreshed ILX sedan in last year, so don’t expect anything new for the 2017 model. Still, the compact car is definitely worth mentioning, because it offers some pretty impressive things. The exterior design may not be the most important part of any vehicle, but it’s pretty essential for the first impression. Honda’s luxury division definitely realized that for that reason, the 2017 Acura ILX looks really gorgeous without any doubt. It also delivers pretty impressive performance and premium materials inside. From our point of view, the ILX is one of the best compact sedans on the market.
2017 Acura ILX: Styling and Equipment
As you may know, the Acura ILX is largely based on the Civic sedan, so it’s pretty logical why these two shares plenty of characteristics. Still, ILX’s exterior styling isn’t too close with Honda’s sibling, and moreover, it’s pretty unique and exciting. The front end is very aggressive and quite interesting because Acura’s distinctive grille fits perfectly. The same goes for the LED headlights, while the bumper and fogs just complete the overall impression. This is all thanks to the last year’s refreshment, which made the biggest accent on the front and rear ends styling.
The interior also received several important changes in the last year. The cab of the 2017 Acura ILX looks quite impressive. Except for the finest materials and very supportive seats, the compact sedan also offers maybe the class-leading legroom. Still, we wouldn’t recommend this car to basketball players, as it lacks the headroom in the front.
Acura’s dual-screen infotainment system is the best possible solution you can get, It’s not surprising why the carmaker added that to the 2017 ILX. The setup is really easy to use and very intuitive, so we strongly recommend it. Of course, the standard equipment also includes Bluetooth connectivity, power moonroof, satellite radio and hands-free text messaging. For those that want something like leather upholstery, HD Radio or Pandora compatibility Acura offers the Premium Package.
Safety Features and Engines
The car gets top scores for safety, which is rather common for all Acura models. The manufacturer pays the biggest attention of safety, and this is so obvious because of a big number of systems. There is cruise control, road departure mitigation, lane-keeping assist and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, as well as a blind spot monitor with rear traffic alert. The impressive LaneWatch also sports an amazing camera system with a wide range of angles.
The last year’s model has brought some pretty radical changes under the hood. Now, we are not so sure did the carmaker acted right or wrong when it canceled the base 2.0-liter engine and the slow-selling hybrid model, yet the choice reduced to one option. It’s a 2.4-liter inline-4 unit and eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The setup powers front wheels and deliver 201 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. We have to mention that the car features very responsive and smooth shifting, so the high-performance driving seems very easy.
Current Price and Arrival of The New ILX
The 2017 Acura ILX is definitely the premium and highly luxurious car. The starting price of $32,810 seems pretty reasonable. Still, if you are not in a hurry, we strongly recommend you to wait for two more years, as the compact sedan is getting the all-new “suit” and some outstanding engine options.
