The 2017 Acura MDX isn’t the most popular mid-size crossover at the moment, but it’s one of the best without any doubt. The amazing vehicle sports the outstanding performance and handsome bodywork. However, the most impressive part of the model is the interior. The cab gets premium materials and luxurious look, as well as the best possible equipment you can find. For this year, the manufacturer made several cosmetic changes, yet the most important improvements are hidden under the skin.
2017 Acura MDX: Improvements and Features
The exterior improvements are the most visible on the front end. Acura’s amazing crossover features a completely new diamond pentagon grille, which will be the indispensable part of every future model of Honda’s luxury division. In addition, there is more aggressive hood design, as well as a bit restyled and jewel-eye headlamps. The SUV sports more pronounced fenders and totally new LED fogs. The rear end is almost the same as before, except it has twin-tailpipe design, which definitely boosts the look of the 2017 Acura MDX.
Look inside and you will see nothing but luxury. The interesting crossover offers seating for seven people, and maybe the class-leading room for all three rows. In the tech department, the 2017 Acura MDX provides some very useful stuff, like two displays – one for infotainment and second for navigation system. The manufacturer also improved already amazing safety of the SUV. If you remember the 2016 model earned top rating, so the upgraded model can be only better. The producer added AcuraWatch setup, which will be standard for all trim levels. It includes quite useful features like forward collision warning, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, road departure mitigation, as well as adaptive cruise-control system and rearview camera.
The seats are leather trimmed and heated, and same goes for steering wheel. Driver’s seats also sports 10-way power adjustment, while the amazing tri-zone automatic climate control comes across the range. There is impressive audio system with standard 8- or optional 10 to 12 speakers, as well as four fast charging USB’s.
The outstanding mid-size crossover got several new thing under the hood in past few years, so we haven’t expect anything new for this year model. However, the carmaker decided to add an impressive Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system, which is pretty the same as RLX’s. The hybrid system combines a 3.0-liter engine, a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and three electric motors. One motor works with transmission, while other two run the rear axle. The model gets all-wheel drive only, but really good handling and better acceleration.
Except of the interesting hybrid option, the 2017 MDX features its standard 3.5-liter engine, which delivers 290 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 267 pound-feet of twist at 4,500 rpm. This setup is exclusively paired with a nine-speed auto gearbox, but you can choose between front- and all-wheel drive systems. If you ask us, we would always go for AWD model. It sports really brilliant mechanical torque vectoring that significantly change the rules when we talk about drivability and capability of the SUV. More so, there is also the Active Sport Suspension, which boosts the handling and makes the big difference between the new MDX and all other SUV’s from the same segment.
