Honda is expanding its lineup very fast, but that does not mean that every single new vehicle arrives in North America. This is the case with all-new and pretty amazing 2017 Honda BR-V that is specially made for Asian market only. The outstanding crossover features really handsome bodywork and quite impressive specs, so we wonder why the Japanese car manufacturer didn’t offer it to US drivers.
2017 Honda BR-V: Performance
Let’s be clear. This isn’t some powerful high-riding machine with thirsty engines, but a true subcompact crossover for everyday use. At the moment, the vehicle offers only two engines. You can choose between the base 1.5-liter petrol four that delivers at 6,600 rpm and 145 Nm (107 lb-ft) of torque at 4,600 rpm and the oil-burner 1.5-liter unit, which comes with 100 bhp. Both engines belong to “Earth Dreams Technology”, and both are paired with six-speed manual transmission only.
Styling, Equipment, Safety
The 2017 BR-V sports pretty compact, yet very dynamic body which has a lot in common with the bigger CR-V crossover. This specially refers on the front end that features pretty identical headlights and bumper. On the other hand, the grille appears to be borrowed from the Mobilio MPV. Both, the headlights and taillights have LED treatment, while the roof gets strong rails. The 16-inch aluminum wheels are standard, but you can also choose the optional 17-inch alloys.
The interior is pretty good, and offers enough space in the first and second row. On the other hand, the third row of seating seems pretty hidebound. However, if you don’t need seven seats, you can buy the five-seating model, which is really roomy. Honda’s tech department did a great job with the implementation of an amazing Multi-Information Display that offers a wide range of pretty useful options. There is also an outstanding rear air conditioner between the first and second row seats. The interesting SUV comes with good safety kit that includes dual and front SRS airbags, ABS and EBD. There is also Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HSA) and front 3-point load limiters with pretensioner ELR seat belt and ISOFIX.
Price Range and Availability
Like we said before, at the is moment the 2017 Honda BR-V won’t be offered to the North American or European drivers, but just in Asia and Australia. The SUV sports pretty reasonable price that ranges from $16,605 to $19,130.
