2017 Honda Civic Hybrid

According to the latest rumors, the renowned car manufacturer is going to add one new hybrid model. More precisely, they will bring back the 2017 Honda Civic Hybrid. The automaker recently introduced the new generation of the Civic, so we already know styling of the new hybrid. The only difference is going to be under the hood.

2017 Honda Civic Hybrid – Powertrain

Basically, the new powertrain is Honda’s upgraded 2-motor hybrid system. In contrast to the previous, the improved, so-called Sport Hybrid i-MMD drivetrain will have around 23 percent smaller and 27 percent lighter electric motors. The lithium ion battery is on the other hand more compact and also lighter for 6 percent.

The hybrid combines a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and two electric motors – one fixed on the back of the engine and other to the differential. Together the system should be able to produce over 200 horsepower. The motors will be mated to a 1.3-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. The battery should be mounted either in the trunk or into the floor. Of course, the system will be paired with a CVT and all-wheel drive only. According to our source, the 2017 Civic Hybrid will be able to accelerate on electricity up to 30 mph, but it will also run on the electric mode up to 60 mph. We can’t say the exact figures, yet the fuel economy should be very high, possibly over 50 mpg city.

Styling and Features

Like we said before, the 2017 Honda Civic Hybrid will sport identical styling as the non-hybrid sedan. This is great because the 10th generation Civic looks really impressive. The sleek design features some stunning details like the impressive grille and aggressive headlights. Still, the exciting exterior is nothing compared to the cab. Reportedly, the Civic hybrid will get a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen, navigation, leather upholstery, upgraded 10-speaker stereo, and Honda’s full active safety.
