We just saw a redesigned 2017 Honda Civic Si while it was testing its new abilities. The prototype wears minimal camouflage, so we can see in what direction goes the development of this coupe. However, the new exterior design isn’t everything from the upcoming Si. We have found out that there will be something new under the hood, as well as inside. Yes, we managed to see the new interior, which is going to look really impressive and quite unique.
2017 Honda Civic Si: New Platform, New Engines
There will be no differences under the skin between the 2017 Civic Si and other Civics. Moreover, except of them, the next Accord will also use Honda’s Global Compact architecture. The platform will be very sporty and highly adaptable to the big number of engines.
However, this doesn’t mean that the upcoming Civic Si will have plenty of options under the hood. According to our insider, the amazing coupe will likely have two powertrain choices. The base model will use a revamped version of the 1.5-liter mill that is going to deliver around 177 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of twist. The second option will be a new 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which will be borrowed from the Type R. Still, don’t expect the unit with its full potential. The engine will be toned down, so instead of 300 hp, there will be around 230 ponies. While some reports suggest it will be matted to the CVT, we are quite convinced there will be only a six-speed manual. The gearbox will send the power to the front wheels as always.
The 2017 Honda Civic Si looks more dynamic from the regular Civic coupe. This especially refers to the front end that’s going to have a blacked out grille and very aggressive intakes. The hood is on the other hand pretty the same, while the front bumper appears to be lowered. Around back, the car features pretty the same design as the 2016 Civic Coupe Concept. The most interesting cue is a wide single outlet with trio of exhaust tips and a large rear wing, which seems to be borrowed from the Type R.
We haven’t saw the complete cab, but what we saw are the bigger seats and bolsters, as well as some contrast red stitching. A new dash sports plenty of carbon fiber, while the doors get Alcantra inserts.
Price and Arrival
The sporty coupe will be introduced very soon, most likely at the upcoming 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. If the carmaker somehow manages to skip this event, the 2017 Honda Civic Si will make its debut at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show. The actual price is unknown yet, but let’s say it will start at $25,000.
