Honda has revealed the 2017 Honda Civic Type-R at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The car looks impressive and sports pretty amazing interior, but it won’t have 400 horsepower as we thought earlier. Still, the upcoming model will definitely have more power form its predecessor, and will get notably better performance.
2017 Honda Civic Type-R: Engine Specs and Gearbox
Today, the sporty vehicle uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine that is capable to deliver 306 bhp and 400 Nm of torque, while the successor is getting the same, yet upgraded powertrain, which will produce 340 bhp and 450 Nm. The new Civic Type-R will likely improve its top speed, as well as a 0-60 mph sprint, which might easily go below 5 seconds. This will surely make the biggest rivals worried. If you thought that Japanese carmaker plans to add the all-wheel drive setup, you are wrong. The amazing car will keep its usual front-wheel drive, which is going to be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox only.
New Styling and Bigger Body
The new generation Honda Civic Type-R isn’t just more powerful option than the previous model, but also notably larger. The hot hatchback is 30 mm wider, 20 mm lower and 130 mm longer than earlier. This makes both, the exterior and interior more impressive that earlier. Speaking of the bodywork, we have to mention that the 2017 Honda Civic Type-R looks really beautiful. The manufacturer sports quit interesting details in the front end. There is an aggressive red bumper and really huge air intakes. We are also pretty amazed with darkened headlights, which also have LED technology.
The outstanding hatchback also gets flared wheel arches, while the new 20-inch wheels seem really impressive. Around back, the vehicle features the unusual center-mounted exhaust system with two large pipes and a smaller tip in between. This is really interesting because all three have its purpose. Altogether, the new generation Civic Type-R looks far better than earlier, largely thanks to the lowered body that makes the hatch ultra-sporty.
The car manufacturer still hides the interior design of the car, but we think that it will keep plenty of details from its predecessor. The cab will definitely continue to be red, and the carmaker will probably hold the analog instrument cluster. Of course, there will be some essential changes, as more cozy seats and better tech.
Price and Release Date
The 2017 Honda Civic Type-R will be released in Europe next summer. The North American customers will have to wait a little bit longer, because the US-specs model won’t be available before the early 2018. The price will probably stay pretty much the same. This means you will have to have around $46,000, if you want this amazing piece of car.
