Honda’s luxury division offers some quite popular nameplates in the United States, but Acura’s high-riding models bring most of the profit. This is why the carmaker is currently working on a new crossover for the North American market. More precisely, they are reconsidering the idea to introduce the small 2018 Acura CDX. In case you are wondering what’s the CDX we can give you one quite simple answer. It’s just the luxurious version of Honda’s HR-V. Okay, it’s maybe a bit more than that, yet we are not so sure whether it’s worth giving at least $12,000 more for the compact with Acura badge?
2018 Acura CDX: Engine or Engines?
Performance wise, the 2018 CDX will offer the same engine you can find under the hood of the new CR-V. It’s a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline unit that’s able to develop around 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Plus, you will be able to choose between front- and all-wheel drive. Some rumors indicate that there will be some kind of a hybrid as well. However, we have no other information about that matter at the moment.
Design and Features
Acura’s entry-level crossover has been introduced in China already, so we know what to expect. The Japanese carmaker won’t change anything from the outside without any doubt. The mini SUV will keep its aggressive look with pretty dominant front-end styling. There is a pair of the angular headlight and a gorgeous grille that fits perfectly on car’s nose. Below, the high-riding vehicle sports an imposing bumper with a big air intake. Still, as far as we are really amazed at all this, the hood and roof are our favorite parts of the 2018 Acura CDX. They make the crossover highly dynamic in every sense.
The catchy exterior design won’t be the only high-quality part of the upcoming crossover. Acura’s baby SUV would also offer an imposing cabin as well. The carmaker won’t skip the chance to load the vehicle with the latest technologies. Moreover, we expect to see some parts of Acura’s Precision Cockpit Concept like a 12.3-inch dual-zone wide infotainment screen or even a dual-layer dashboard design. Of course, Acura’s cozy seats will be covered with the finest leather with contrast stitching.
Price and Arrival
Like we said, the 2018 Acura CDX cost more than the Honda HR-V. The manufacturer hasn’t come up with the exact figures yet, but it should be priced at least $32,000. The highly luxurious high-riding vehicle will be introduced pretty soon, most likely at the upcoming 2017 Los Angeles auto show.
