According to the latest rumors Acura will make some important changes on the flagship SUV. Despite this year model already got plenty of improvements, the Honda’s luxury division will add a few new details to the 2018 Acura MDX. Except of several cosmetic changes, the vehicle will also sport an update under the hood, as well as revamped chassis.
2018 Acura MDX: New Platform and Equipment
The information we have are still unofficial, but it appears that the 2018 MDX could easily get the updated platform. The new underpinning is very important for the SUV, because the carmaker plans to increase aluminum and carbon fiber. This way, the overall weight should be reduced for at least 200 pounds.
In addition, the new architecture will also enable more room inside. The SUV is already one of the most spacious in the segment, so the additional space will definitely make more bearable seating in the third row.
The 2018 Acura MDX will get a new suspension as well. This so called Sport Suspension will improve car’s handling and ride. The system is mated with Integrated Dynamics System, which enables four driving modes. The SUV features Comfort, Normal, Sport and Sport+ settings, and all four are completely different and absolutely perfect.
Styling wise, the crossover won’t have too many changes. The exterior might receive a mild update in the front and rear, likely the refreshed lightening cluster. On the other hand, the grille and bumpers will stay unchanged, while the carmaker could add one or two new paints. Except of more space, the cab will sport new upholstery made from the finest leather. There will be more standard safety features and significantly better infotainment and entertainment systems.
Under the hood, the 2018 Acura MDX will get the upgraded version of the current 3.5-liter engine. However, instead of the present 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, the mill will deliver around 300 hp. On the other hand, the hybrid drivetrain will stay unchanged. So called MDX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD will use a 3.0-liter engine, a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and a three-motor hybrid system. Altogether the system develops 325 horsepower that power all four wheels.
Estimated Price and Arrival
The refreshed 2018 Acura MDX will be introduced sometime in 2017, most likely in the first quarter. The price won’t be changed at all. The base FWD model will cost around $44,000, while the fully loaded model costs over $55,000.
