We just spied a camouflaged prototype of what’s seems to be the refreshed 2018 Acura TLX. This mid-size car gets several styling changes, which are the most evident in the front end and inside. Honda’s luxury department might also introduce something new under the hood. According to the newest reports, they could easily offer a new turbo four, as well as Accord’s updated hybrid powertrain, or even MDX’s amazing hybrid system.
2018 Acura TLX: Under The Hood
If the refreshed 2018 TLX really gets the same hybrid drivetrain from Acura’s SUV, you can expect the impressive setup that combines a 3.0-liter V6 with three electric motors. Altogether, the powertrain can produce 325 horsepower. However, what’s more important, it will deliver very good fuel economy.
In case they pick Accord’s drivetrain, the 2018 Acura TLX won’t have that much power. However it will feature really impressive fuel economy that might be 50 mpg in city. There is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, which runs on the ultra-efficient Atkinson cycle and uses “just” two electric motors. The total output should be around 212 horsepower, which is more than enough for impressive performance. As for the gasoline model, the mid-size sedan will likely continue to use a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that is going to get more power.
As we already said, the 2018 TLX won’t receive a complete redesign, but only a refresh. Both the front and rear end are largely changed, but the rest of the car stays completely the same. The car we saw carries some heavy camo, yet we can still see what’s new. There is a fully redesigned grille that gets mesh treatment, as well as significantly larger headlights. The new hood design is actually borrowed from the Acura Precision Concept, so the car looks more aggressive.
Around back, there are the all-new taillights and a bit tweaked rear hatch, which appears to be more aggressive. We were not able to see the updated interior, yet we are pretty sure there will be some big surprises. The Japanese automaker simply loves to add something new inside, so except of the upgraded technology, the 2018 Acura TLX would also get totally new upholstery and probably redesigned dashboard.
Estimated Price and Arrival
The North American premiere should happen in about six months, possibly at the 2017 New York Auto Show, but the 2018 TLX won’t become available before the next summer. The sedan will become a bit more expensive, which means you will have to set out at least $500 more for the base model.
