It seems that Honda’s new generation Civic hasn’t finished its public showing. The car came completely redesigned last year offering sedan, coupe, and hatchback body styles along with a ton of trims. However, the nameplate lacks more options under the hood. Still, this is going to change with the arrival of the 2018 Honda Civic Hybrid.
2018 Honda Civic Hybrid: Drivetrain
Until now, you were able to choose between a base 2.0-liter inline-4 that makes 158 horsepower and turbocharged four that delivers either 174 hp or 205 hp, depending what you want, but from now on the car will be available with a new hybrid drivetrain. Well, okay, the vehicle isn’t ready yet. Moreover, it’s won’t be introduced until early next year, but it will definitely arrive.
The car manufacturer hasn’t revealed all information regarding the new drivetrain. However, according to available information, the new sort of electric-drive technology is called “two-motor hybrid system” and will come in a pair with a new 10-speed automatic transmission. They haven’t specified anything more, yet they mentioned that the 2018 Civic Hybrid will definitely have better fuel economy than the Accord Hybrid. Aside, it’s going to work with the Civic, this powertrain will likely come with some other models. Honda’s Clarity, Odyssey, and Rav4 will definitely receive the new hybrid technology.
The 2018 Honda Civic Hybrid will definitely feature the same exterior design as the regular model, or better to say, models. Still, we are pretty sure the coupe hybrid won’t get the hybrid drivetrain. As for other two flavors, they might have some specific exterior colors, as well as a charging port somewhere on the body. The car could have some space “issue”. Honda usually places the battery in the trunk. However, that might change with the arrival of the 2018 Honda Civic Hybrid. This time, they may reconsider some other place, perhaps floor. Otherwise, the car could lose a half of the trunk.
Starting Price and Official Debut
So what do you think this car could cost? The Japanese car manufacturer keeps its mouth closed of course, but we managed to find out the price. According to our insider, the all-new 2018 Honda Civic Hybrid should be priced at around $30K, which is a pretty good bargain. Like we said earlier, the vehicle won’t be introduced before early 2018. We don’t know a better place for its official debut than the 2018 Detroit auto show.
