The Japanese car manufacturer is getting ready to introduce the all-new 2018 Honda Element crossover. At least the latest rumors suggest the possibility. Judging by the model year, the comeback of the UV is scheduled for the next year. Though, it’s hard to believe in the rumors, because we haven’t managed to catch any boxy high-riding vehicle with Honda badge in the past several months. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that there will be a new-generation model. No, the car manufacturer either hides the prototype from our eyes, or the all-new crossover won’t be boxy at all.
2018 Honda Element: Off-Road and Engine
As far as we think, the 2018 Honda Element will keep the boxy design. Moreover, the vehicle won’t be a crossover at all. Our insider claims that the car manufacturer is reconsidering to build a proper off-road SUV, which is going to be named the 2018 Element. If this turns out to be the truth than the segment gets one more Wrangler rival. As you probably know, Ford is working on the new Bronco, while Toyota should introduce the redesigned 4Runner pretty soon. All this is a reason more to believe that the Japanese car manufacturer plans to build the off-roader named Element.
The biggest problem for Honda’s future off-road SUV is lack of a suitable platform. The carmaker sports just a single truck, which uses a unibody design. However, the producer might either produce the all-new 2018 Honda Element in collaboration with some other carmaker or make the proper architecture.
Power wise, the SUV has plenty of possibilities. Still, we count on a 3.5-liter V-6 that makes 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. The unit should come in a pair with a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. There is a big possibility of an optional manual gearbox as well.
Design and Features
Aside from its boxy design and capable engine, the 2018 Element SUV will also feature a suitable design and features. The styling will keep boxy basis, yet the manufacturer should add flared fenders, off-road suspension, and appropriate tires. Honda can’t really compare with the Wrangler and alike, but it might offer better technologies, and definitely more comfortable driving, so we think it’s going to play on that card with the 2018 Honda Element.
Price and Arrival
As we said earlier, the 2018 Honda Element will be introduced sometime in 2018. If the SUV really becomes an off-roader, it should feature pretty much the same price as the biggest rivals, which is around $30K.
