We are not sure, but it appears that Honda’s powertrain department never sleeps. According to several Japanese car sites, they are getting ready to introduce a hybrid-powered 2018 Honda Fit. Still, this will be just one of the new options, because the popular hatchback should also offer the ultra-efficient 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine.
2018 Honda Fit: Under The Hood
As for the 1.0-liter three-pot unit, it’s going to deliver up to 127 horsepower and 147 pound-feet of torque. The small engine will be paired to a six-speed manual gearbox. Now, since it’s the all-new drivetrain, we can’t say the actual fuel economy. However, the carmaker promises class-leading efficiency. In case you want something “greener”, the automaker will prepare the 2018 Honda Fit Hybrid, which will combine a 1.5-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder with an i-MMD system. This powertrain should be mated to a CVT.
New Styling and More Technologies
The new drivetrains won’t the only change for the 2018 Honda Fit. Judging by the latest rumors, the hot hatch will also receive a complete makeover. The front end will get a Civic-based design, with the identical grille and headlights. Both front and rear bumper should be more pronounced, while the rooflines might become sleeker. The 2018 Fit should keep the same footprint as the predecessor. Still, it will shed some weight. The car will reportedly lose around 66 pounds, which isn’t as impressive as Ford’s F-150 pickup that’s lighter for 700 pounds, but it’s really much for the hatch. The reduced cure weight will definitely have a big influence on the fuel economy of the new Honda Fit.
Of course, Honda will make some redesigned changes inside. However, aside of the new upholstery, the seats won’t change at all, which is good, because Honda’s “Magic Seats” are really amazing. On the other hand, the dash should be totally revamped. The carmaker might borrow the new dashboard from the 2017 Civic. In addition, the infotainment system might be offered across the whole range, but there will be standard 5-inch and the optional 7-inch screen.
Estimated Price and Arrival
The redesigned 2018 Honda Fit will arrive in the second half of 2017, or in early 2018. The base model won’t significantly change its price, which is currently around $16K.
