High-performance pickup trucks are not the best-selling vehicles available, but they are pretty important part of the car market. However, there are no too many models of the kind. The current leaders in the segment are definitely Ford with its amazing and around 450 horsepower strong Raptor and Ram, which is getting ready to introduce Hellcat-power beast in the coming year. Plus, we have found out that Nissan prepares to add Nismo badge to its popular Titian. This is pretty much everything in the moment.
However, judging by the latest rumors, there will be one more high-end model available in 2018. It’s a long time rumored 2018 Honda Ridgeline Type R. The unibody truck will definitely receive a more potent engine under the hood, but it won’t be able to compete with aforementioned models, simply because it doesn’t belong to the class. Ford’s, Nissan’s, and Ram’s trucks are basically working trucks and supported by rear body-on-frame platforms, while Honda’s Type R pickup won’t be able to go off the road for many reasons.
2018 Honda Ridgeline Type R: Performance
The 2018 Honda Ridgeline Type R will use the same 3.5-liter V6 engine as the non-R model. However, in contrast to the regular model that delivers 280 horsepower, the high-performance pickup will be capable of producing around 350 horsepower. Also, the Type R will have no front-wheel drive setup. Instead, the truck will be paired with all-wheel drive only, which will get power via a six-speed automatic transmission. Of course, the vehicle will get a special suspension system that will significantly boost driving dynamics and handling. Plus, it’s going to ride on bigger wheels with a special braking system and large discs.
We are not so sure what’s going to be changed inside and out, yet we know it’s going to happen. According to the latest rumors, the high-performance truck will get lowered ground clearance and some special details such as more massive front bumper and restyled grille. Around back, the Japanese car manufacturer will likely add a dual exhaust pipe layout and Type R badge. And no, there will be no any kind of wing in the back. The interior will definitely feature the best possible equipment the carmaker could offer at the moment, plus “Type R” badges all around the cabin. Of course, the pickup will also feature sports seats and steering wheel.
Arrival and Price
There is nothing official about the arrival and the price of the high-performance pickup truck. However, judging by the information we have, the 2018 Honda Ridgeline Type R will become available early next year. The price should start at around $40,000.
