2019 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid: Everything We Know So Far

It’s not the first time we wrote about the hybrid possibility under the hood of Honda’s pickup truck, but the possibility turned into the probability, which is the main reason for another rumor mill. The chances for the arrival of the 2019 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid did not grow from the last time. No, the electrified truck is definitely coming, but we don’t have the official word from the carmaker. Instead, our trusted source explained to us what’s going on with the idea.

2019 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid: 321 Horsepower from SH-AWD

The 2019 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid is reportedly in the final phase of development. This means it’s going to become available sometime next year. The carmaker doesn’t have to figure out anything new for the vehicle because the pickup can easily borrow the option from the SUV sibling. More precisely, the unibody workhorse will definitely add the SH-AWD technology, which will improve both power and fuel economy of the truck.

In contrast to the 3.5-liter V6 gasoline model that stops at 280 horsepower, the 2019 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid will probably deliver 321 horsepower as the Acura MDX Sport Hybrid. The truck will rely on a 3.0-liter gasoline engine and a trio of electric motors. Of course, the system will be mated to an all-wheel drive. It will get its power via a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. One of three motors is actually a generator and transaxle assists. It works together with the engine and supplies a 1.3-kWh lithium-ion battery. The other two are connected to the rear axle helping the system with 72 horsepower. Some sources claim that Honda might reduce the power of the system to 311 horsepower.  We don’t believe in the report because it doesn’t make any sense.

Estimated Fuel Economy

What makes sense is a far better fuel economy of the pickup truck. In contrast to the regular gasoline-powered Ridgeline which is limited to 18/25/21 mpg city/highway/combined, the hybrid is rumored to achieve 27/27/28 mpg city/highway/combined. Yes, overall fuel economy may be easily better from the Chevrolet Colorado diesel. But this is basically the main purpose of the hybrid pickup truck.

Design Changes and Price

The Japanese car manufacturer will not play with anything else, so don’t expect any new styling detail with the arrival of the 2019 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid. Okay, the green truck might have some unique cues which will set it apart from the gasoline sibling. Still, that could only be some new color option for the exterior or perhaps the new upholstery inside. If Honda does an update of the infotainment in the meantime, the 2019 Ridgeline Hybrid will host the new technology.

Still, putting the SH-AWD technology into the truck has the price. The 2019 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid has to cost more from the regular model, and we think it’s going to start at around $40K.
