Honda’s luxury department is usually making high-end models with premium features, as well as one ultra-impressive supercar. However, except of that the Japanese car manufacturer can boast with the Acura TLX GT. The imposing vehicle isn’t something you would find in salons, but a true race car.
Acura TLX GT: Chassis and Features
Although the name suggests otherwise, the Acura TLX GT has nothing in common with the regular model. The race car has its own platform, so called HPD-developed chassis. It also sports a number of high-performance features like front lip spoiler, side skirts, as well as massive front and rear bumpers. Of course, there is also a large rear wing that helps the driver to keep the car on track.
Still, the most important part of Acura’s race car is hidden under the hood. The TLX GT uses an impressive 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, which is capable to deliver an amazing output. Believe it or no, the mill produces around 600 horsepower. The unit is matted to a XTRAC six-speed sequential transmission that sends the power to all four wheels. This so called Acura’s Super-Handling All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system superbly optimizes traction. However, this car isn’t totally perfect. We founded some small lacks either. For instance, Acura’s race car weights too much, which significantly slows it down. Let’s be clear, the TLX GT is very fast, yet the massive curb weight of around 3,000 makes it less explosive from some rivals.
Speaking of which, the Acura TLX GT competes against the outstanding models like the Audi R8 LMS, Mercedes SLS GT3 and even the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. According to the newest reports, the 2017 Acura TLX GT will get rid of the all-wheel drive system, as well as some weight, so it should improve its performance. Honda’s luxury division will also reduce front to rear differential interactive cornering drag, which is very important for the RWD setup.
Like we told you before, the Acura TLX GT is a race car. It means it isn’t available on the marker. But let’s say it is, and let’s say it cost a fortune – around $110,000.
